Here is a fast and fun tut for making perfect cutouts.
The flowers are "C" from a ding font called Roses Roses!

The second one had an extra promoted layer that shouldn't have been there (I promoted for doing a cutout around the main part of the pic) so I changed the layer properties to burn and lowered the opacity to get the deep, rich red.)
