When you open a webpage with a midi file playing in the background, the file has to download to your harddrive before your browser can play it.  Getting Windows to give the file to you can be a hassle if you don't know these little secrets.

Internet Explorer and Windows do not make it easy for you to find specific files in the Temporary Internet folder.
I looked for a long time, by opening the folder to view files.
I used Windows File Finder and came up with nothing.

Don't give up if the same thing happens to you.

Here's an easy way to snag whatever you are looking for.

1)Start > Control Panel > Internet Options.
Delete files... That will clear out all the junk that you have to browse through.

IE OPTIONS

2) Open IE to the page you want to snag the audio file from. You can use this page as an example to practice with.

In the text menu at the top of your screen go to:    View > Source.
IE will open the source code for the page in NotePad.
Look for words like "bgsound" or for the file extension, ie. .mid, .wav, .mp3, etc. to learn the name of the file you are looking for.

The midi file playing is Baby Elephant Walk - a familiar tune.  In this case, the file name is: babywalk.mid.

View Source

3) Start  > Control Panel > Internet Options > Click on SETTINGS Button
Click on VIEW FILES

If your view is not the same as mine... and you see alot of text files (cookies) there, click on View > Thumbnails.

View > Arrange Icons > By Size

The file you are looking for should come up right at the top of the screen this time... if you don't empty your files first, it will be buried in the jumble way down deep somewhere and you can search til the cows come home and not see the file you're looking for.

4) Copy the file to the folder where you want to save the file.
