MISTY BOTTLE CAP

Materials needed:

  • Mura's Meister filter - Copies - Download here.
  • User defined filter - vetch-soft-emboss
(move to your Preset folder - **not your preset shapes folder.)
  • Preset shape - gear 5 - comes with PSP 7 - Download here if you don't have it. Move it to your Preset Shapes folder.
  • Misted tube - round or square similar to this one - approximate size 350 - 400 pixels wide. This tube came thru a shares group.  The name of it is chrismist_moi_et_couer_001.  I am not offering to share it here because I do not have the artists' permissions to do so.  Any misted scenery tube should work with this tut as long as it is larger than the bottle cap you'll be making .

Let's get started.

Open a new image 500 X 500 pixels, transparent.

BOTTLE CAP

Choose a neutral color or pattern for your foreground and background. Similar to the colors in your misted tube.  I used a metallic gradient for foreground and a gold pattern for my background. It doesn't matter except you don't want dark or vibrant colors.

Preset shape tool - choose Gear 5 with these settings:

Retain style - unchecked, Anti-alias checked.  Create as vector - checked.  Line style - straight line Width: 4, the rest are default settings

Draw a shape in the middle of your image so it looks like this:

Objects> Align > Center in Canvas

Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

Inner Bevel - I saved this as a preset named bottlecap ...

Bevel #3
Width 20
Smoothness: 10
Depth: 50
Ambience: 0
Shininess: 0
Color: white
Angle: 80
Intensity: 50
Elevation: 20

Copy your misted tube and paste over your bottlecap as a new layer.

Duplicate the new layer and drag the duped layer to below the bottlecap layer.

Hide the top two layers in your layer palette and make sure the bottom misted tube is selected.

Effects > Muras Meister > Copies

Mura's is variable in that no one setting is going to work for every mist or tube. Play with the settings until you get a fully covered, balanced preview window... the above is an example of my settings - and you can see that there is no blank space in the preview.

When you like the background click OK.

Effects > User Defined Filter
Scroll to vetch_soft_emboss and click OK.

Lower the opacity of this layer to about 60%.

Select the bottom layer (Raster 1) in your layer palette.
Floodfill the bottom layer with a neutral color.

Layers > Merge > Merge visible

Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Bevel #1
Width: 16
Smoothness: 10
Depth: 5
Ambience: 0
Shininess: 0
Color: white
Angle: 315
Intensity: 40
Elevation: 40

Edit > Copy (the entire layer)
Edit > Paste as New Image . Minimize the new image for now.

Back to your tag!
Unhide the top two layers.
Select your bottle cap layer

Effects > 3D effects > Drop Shadow

Vertical: 2
Horizontal: 2
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3
Color: Black

Lower the opacity of the tube layer on top to between 50 - 75% until you can see the outline of the bottlecap clearly behind it.

Duplicate the tube layer and change the layer properties of the new layer to Multiply. Reduce the opacity of the multiply layer until you are satisfied with the look of your tag.

Layers > Merge > Merge all (flatten). Add your signature or watermark.  Resize your tag to a size you like and export your image as a jpg with a compression of no more than 8.

Restore the copy of the background layer, and use your selection tool to draw a rectangle, somewhere inside of the pattern, where you don't have a sharp dark edge...

Image > Crop to Selection
Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling.
Use the tiling preview to find a look that you like for your background.

**Tip!  Sometimes I apply the seamless tile twice, using different settings for both.  I often make a tile, then lower the opacity of it so that it's lighter to work with than the original.

Export the tile as a jpg, too.

Done deal.

I hope you enjoyed doing this tut as much as I did playing with it and writing the tut.
