Using the Mail Rules Feature of O.E.

You can either go ahead and make up your folders
(if you know what you want to name them) by clicking on InBox > New Folder

Create your new folder under the InBox
or if you want to makesub-folders
under a newly named folder

( i.e. "Family" subfolders would be a folder named for
each individual family member )

or

(as you can see I made many individual folders under my "Family" folder)
a new rule must be set up for each person

Or you may create your folders as you go. It works either way you chose.

Go to Message > Create Rule from Message:

New Mail Rule box opens.
You have several choices to use but we are specifically making a rule for a "from" message.

1. Check the line "Where the From line contains people"
2. Check the line "Move to the specified folder"
3. Click on the word "specified"
4. The move box opens. Chose which folder you would like to move this message into.
5. Click OK
*please note that if you did not make your folders before-hand then click on "new folder" and name your folder...make sure it is highlighted (#4) then click OK*

Once you click on OK then you will have a small box open that says new rule made successfully.
Click OK.

Now we need to apply this rule.

Go to Tools > Message Rules > Mail

Message Rules box opens.
1. Locate your new rule you just made and highlight it.
2.In the description box, read to make sure your message has the correct name and folder.
3. Click Apply Now....another box similar to this one will open just click apply now and let OE "do it's thing"

You will have a small box open telling your the new rule has been successful.
Now all the mail from this "specified" source will automatically go into the folder you just set up when you download your mail.

You may also make more than one choice when setting up a message rule.

Look at this screen below.

You'll notice that this screen has the "from" line checked and also the "subject" line checked.

When you click on the "contains specific words", a box will open where you can type very specific words (or copy>paste is easier and quicker)
Click Add
Click OK

Don't forget after you create a message.....you have to Apply the Rule in order for it to work automatically!
